Waterfalls in Lombok

Swimming in the Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls in Northern Lombok has to be in the top 5 coolest things I have ever done in my life.

The waterfalls were stunningly gorgeous and we got to go for a bit of a walk through the jungle to reach them. Just walking through the jungle in itself was a cool experience, but once I saw the Tiu Kelep waterfall I knew I was living in a very special moment that I would remember for years.

Pictures from the hike to Sendang Gile waterfall. This was very easy and was completely downhill but beautiful.

When we got to the first waterfall, Sendang Gile, I was definitely impressed but not crazy excited. I managed to get some lovely pictures that I was excited about of children playing around the waterfall. I especially love the little indonesian girl in the red dress. She was so cute running around. There was a lot of mist in the air from the splash of the waterfall so definitely expect to get a bit wet even if you don’t go swimming!

The water was definitely very cold even in the hot Indonesian summer. This boy had been playing in the stream and was soaked! The water was definitely very cold even in the hot Indonesian summer. This boy had been playing in the stream and was soaked!

Did I mention how cold this water was!?!? I was freezing during this picture!

Sweet girl. I love this picture.

After we explored this waterfall we did another short 30 minute hike to Tiu Kelep. The second waterfall is more difficult to get to because you have to cross a few rivers at about calf deep and climb over a few boulders. Still very manageable for anyone who has a good pair of shoes (or in flip flops like our guide was wearing…).

The waterfall is breathtaking and absolutely worth crossing a couple small streams for.

You can go swimming in the pool at the base. You have to be careful though because the waterfall is very powerful and if you swim into the center you can get caught under the water and drown. A few tourists die every year because they aren’t careful.

Just absolutely breathtaking

The whole day was incredible. One of my absolute favorite memories of Indonesia. On this trip there were a few surreal moments and this was definitely one of them. I couldn’t believe I was in such a beautiful natural space.

There is a legend about this waterfall that if you swim in it you will be forever young. I’ll let you know how that goes in a few years!

After climbing out and back to our car we had rented for the day. We sat down and had lunch with our guide in a beautiful cliffside restaurant. The whole day just couldn’t get any better.
